Heraklion is a large town with a medieval fortress at the entrance of the port. In a short distance from Heraklion Town, there is the Minoan Palace of Knossos, which was covered by the volcanic ashes of Santorini in about 1,600 BC and was found almost intact by the archaeologists. Chania Town has a picturesque ambience with the Venetian port, the lighthouse and the Old Town. Close to both Heraklion and Chania, there are beautiful beaches to enjoy your days under the sun. Should you have time, you can drive around and discover the beauty that Crete has to offer.
