Due to its wild location in the Carpathian Mountains, access to the top of Poenari Fortress (via the 1,480 stairs) is strictly regulated by local authorities due to wild brown bear activity and safety measures. Access may be restricted to specific hours or closed entirely during bad weather/winter. If climbing is restricted on the day of your tour, we will still stop at the base of the mountain to admire and photograph this incredible cliffside stronghold from the best viewpoints, while your guide shares its fascinating history.
