Tea is the bedrock of Sri Lankan culture and economy: you will see where tea cultivation was developed along with the development of machines used to create a perfect "cuppa." Royal Botanical Gardens has thousands of species of plants with a spice garden, an orchid house, a massive bamboo grove and many garden vignettes. You can also see a colony of dog-face fruit bats basking in the sun from their perches high in the trees. The Ceylon Tea Museum pays homage to the history of tea production; you can also enjoy a cup of tea and peruse the shop.
